The goal of responsible dog breeders is to improve and preserve their chosen breeds. By using genetic and health testing and screening, having a high-quality, limited breeding program, testing their dogs in an objective venue such as the show ring, field trials, obedience competition, temperament testing, or the type of work the breed was developed to do (herding, livestock guarding, hunting, etc.), responsible breeders help ensure that the breeds we know and treasure today will be preserved for the future.
